Dear Chapter Members and Friends,
It has been a very exciting beginning to our 2014-2015 Chapter year that kicked off with our annual conference in May at the Tampa Renaissance Hotel. Not only did the attendees at the conference receive almost 20 hours of quality education from some great speakers, but those in attendance also experienced an unbelievable message from First Sgt. Matt Eversmann. He was immortalized in the epic film Black Hawk Down, which tells the heroic account of a group of elite US soldiers sent into Mogadishu, Somalia, in 1993 as part of a UN peacekeeping operation. Young Rangers and veteran Delta Force soldiers fought side by side, outnumbered and surrounded, for 18 hours in the most hostile district of Mogadishu until a rescue convoy could be mounted to retrieve them. Committed to sharing the lessons he learned in the military, First Sgt. Matt Eversmann focuses on motivating all people, be they soldiers, students, or employees, through values-based leadership, encouraging them to do their best and dedicate themselves to a cause.
Many thanks to Mike Bickers and his entire education committee for planning truly outstanding Florida Chapter education and networking events this past year. I also would like to thank Renee Jordan for her tremendous year leading our chapter. We will be celebrating this past year’s success and accomplishments of the Florida Chapter at ANI next month.
On Wednesday evening at the two and a half day conference in Tampa the 2014-2015 Board of the HFMA Florida Chapter was honored to be sworn in by HFMA National Board Member, Kim Griffin-Hunter. Our installation banquet was a celebration of the achievements of the outgoing board and many of our chapter leaders were honored for their contributions. In addition, the Florida chapter also recognized Bob Broadway, who is this year’s recipient of HFMA’s Frederick C. Morgan Individual Achievement Award. A new chapter award has been created in Bob’s name and will be given each year to a Florida chapter member who exemplifies leadership excellence and has made significant contributions to the success of the Florida chapter.
Over the course of this year, I will be challenging all members to come forward with ideas where we can improve our member services. As chapter leaders, we continuously encourage ideas and will help our members make it happen.
But the year has just started. Our current Director of Education / Program Chair, Lisa Mathews, and her education committee are planning another high quality educational/networking event for our Fall Conference scheduled for September 7 – 9, 2014 at the Marriott Delray Beach. Agenda details and hotel information can be found on our website or by accessing the direct link http://www.floridahfma.org/chapter-calendar/items/2014-hfma-florida-fa.
Our chapter is very fortunate to have the support of our Corporate Sponsors whose contributions make it possible for us to bring affordable and high caliber education to our members. Please take a moment to visit the sponsor page on our website to see which companies support our chapter and extend them a "Thank You" whenever possible. I hope to see several of you this year at one of our many events this year.
I look forward to seeing all of you at the upcoming Fall Conference at the Marriott Delray Beach. I also request that any feedback on how our Chapter can better serve your professional development be directed to the online form available on our website www.floridahfma.org.
Please do not hesitate to contact myself or any Board Member or Committee Chair with any comments, questions or suggestions on how we can continue to improve and reach an even higher level of success.
