2021 – 2022 President’s Message
Welcome to the Florida HFMA Chapter!
Wow, what an outrageous year we have all been through with this unprecedented (sorry, had to say it!) pandemic that has impacted so many lives. It reminds me of the song, “I will survive” by Gloria Gaynor. For many of us, that’s the world we lived in as we endured the emotional toll, physical suffering, and mental fatigue to overcome the uncertainty of exactly when and how our health and economy would ever recover in 2021.
Our chapter leaders and volunteers could have easily ‘thrown in the towel’ and given up on planning events and opportunities for our members. Or, we could have put our head down and carried on with a ‘business as usual’ mindset without acknowledging that a different approach is needed for success. I am so proud of how our chapter adapted to the climate changes and navigated uncharted waters to meet the mission of the FL HFMA chapter and exceed expectations from our members.
Our chapter’s mission is to collaborate with its members and surrounding communities to provide the best experience possible and innovate strategies that foster enhanced networking, community outreach, education, and professional development opportunities. We will achieve our mission through collaboration and innovation within our chapter, across chapters and with other mission-driven organizations. If your organization is currently not an enterprise member, I encourage you to contact a chapter leader and learn more about the many benefits HFMA can provide to your team members.
Kudos to Robert Howey, our outgoing chapter president, and all our chapter leaders and volunteers for a successful ’20 – ’21 membership year. We hosted over 20 virtual events led by our volunteers with several sessions pulling in over 200 attendees. Many of our members were able to get their CRCR and other HFMA certifications, continuing education requirements and experience fun opportunities to network, be thankful, and ‘give back’ to the community. I have big shoes to fill this upcoming year and a I’m humbled and excited (and a little nervous!) to lead such an amazing group of leaders. I also want to thank our corporate and event sponsors as we depend on their support to run a high performing chapter.
My experiences this past year has taught me that nothing is impossible for our chapter, and we have removed the words “we can’t do this” or “this is not going to work” from our vocabulary. In the coming ’21 – ’22 year you can all expect to see a lot of passion and creativity in the planning of our initiatives. While there are many ways to get involved, we invite you to join our chapter as a volunteer and be an everyday hero to our 4,500+ members. I have often said there is no substitute for this type of volunteer experience. See for yourself and join one of our 40+ committees to support this year’s Florida HFMA theme of One Chapter. Infinite Possibilities.
